Removing wallpaper, it's damaging the drywall?

Ok, just helped my friend with this. We sanded what was left and textured the walls. In our case we added silica sand to the paint so it looks suede like. In a bathroom you can use joint compound to texturized. You can wall paper over, again I would sand. But the other two options are cheaper, wall paper is expensive.
