Can an ipod nano be fixed after moisture sensor trips?

My iPod 8 G 4th gen Nano's battery stopped charging, however it will still sync with my laptop. I sent it in for warranty repair and it came back with a letter that said it had been submerged, the warranty was void. This iPod has never been used in damp conditions, and it certainly hasn't been submerged. Believe me, if I had been dumb enough to drop it in water, I would have admitted it. Can the iPod still be repaired? Or would repairs be so expensive that I should just forget it?
